The museum was opened on 06 July 1974 and has seen over 1.5 million visitors from all the 50 United States and others from over 40 other countries. The museum was born from Auburn Automobile Company (the former national headquarters of the Auburn Automobile Company) which was the hub of manufacturing of some of the Auburn and cord automobiles seen along the Auburn streets.

The museum boasts of three story floors holding more than 120 cars manufactured in the 1894 - 1999 years with specialization in the Auburn, Duesenberg and Cord automobiles making it the greatest and widespread display centre of such automobiles in the world. Having earned its automotive accreditation in 1997 from the American Association of Museums (AAM), the museum boasts of high standards, retained excellent reputation, accountability, continued improvements and field reorganization standards. It has retained these factors from the time of accreditation to the current times making it a major visitor attraction zone over the past years which has lead to it being awarded some of the most prestigious awards in the world such as being listed in the "Top Ten Gearhead Destinations in the United States" by MSNBC News in 2007.

For an automotive visitor in the United States, this is a "must" destination for them, it has all that one will urge to see and learn from the automotive history makers. It takes one back to the earlier years of the 1930s and gives one the real impression of how the automobile industry was in those years. Although history has developed since the opening of the museum, its reputation and dedication has remained intact to push the Auburn automotive legacy more years ahead. Their ultimate dedication has kept visitor flow to the museum, which opens from 9 am to 5 pm daily to welcome individual and family members who may want to explore the magnificent hub of automotive history. The museum holds some of the history Self-decision model, which includes a rope 810 1936 Westchester limousine, which is one of the few systems with a vibration of the trunk (or you can often see the drive if they have kept well built by then).

1929 Chrysler Imperial Roadster, which is composed of the body of Locke and won the CCCA (Classic Car Club of America) and the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) Senior Investigator. The museum is planning an annual event with the inclusion of liveauctioning of some of these legendary automobiles with the auction proceeds been forwarded to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum. This makes the best of events especially for classic car lovers who will have to spend as little as $100 for the auctioning ticket. Other vehicles to be auctioned include a 1930 Auburn Speedster that has been customized and repaired over the period to sustain its original style, a 1976 Cadillac El Dorado Bicentennial Convertible with unique features such as retained original features and an odometer read of 32 miles only!

The museum defines the true automotive history and at one point of life of an automobile lover, they should plan to visit the magnificent automotive history holder.
